The next generation of Wii modding is here! Some of you are already familiar with the Homebrew Channel. Some of you may also be aware that since Waninkoko has left the scene, development has dwindled and, with their proprietary file system, support may be lacking in the future.
Enter the W.O.D.E, or Wii Optical Drive Emulator. There are probably going to be several of these released over the years, but this is the first! This is definitely a unique product and for the most serious of Wii Modders. The greatest thing about it, when it’s released it will be FULLY PLUG AND PLAY! It has a very intuitive design, have a look at these prototype drawings.

As you can see, the intuitive design and ease of use should make this product a leader in providing Wii homebrew to the simple man/woman. The Proof of Concept, however, has a little different look to it. While packaging for the device still needs to be done, they have a working prototype and performance looks to be pretty phenomenal! Let’s look over some of the features of the product:

Completely No-Solder install solution
Easy to use Graphical User Interface – LCD & Joystick – NO homebrew software required (no Nintendo updates of ANY KIND will effect the operation of this solution! )

Passthrough with FLAT-MOD mode built-in, play your DVD-R Wii & GC backups and Imports @3X read speed
Powerful ARM9 MCU Processor

As you can see the design is still quite complex at this point, but this an early prototype. With some different packaging and custom boards, surface mount components etc. this will truly be an awesome product!

I for one can not wait to get my hands on one !! This product just looks awesome outside of the case they are designing for it. This is going to be one of the sleekest solutions to date. The LCD screen is a little overkill and would probably add to cost, so I think it may be unnecessary. Last, but not least, a pretty good demo video showing the thing operating!
Looks promising can’t wait to get one!
